Creating targeted backlinks for your new website is not as difficult as people make it out to be. Just like much else with business, you can get yourself in a fix if you are doing it wrong. The first step that you should take to start to building your backlinks is make a list of web directories that are out there. What you will do then is simply tell the directory about your site in the form of a submission to be listed. Do not be so concerned about the theme or topical relevancy of a particular directory. Large or small sites – the more the better because it is diversity; that is what you want to show the search engines about your backlinking portfolio. Do not bother with article directories as a source of effective backlinks since Google pretty much killed that in early 2011. Have no doubt that the article marketing game changed quite some time ago, but syndication has always worked just great. Find the top half a dozen or so directories and then focus on getting syndicated, but can still publish in the best directories. The real backlink value of all those directories is very low, so do not use them for such purposes. Avoid trying to save time by writing crap articles because that, too, has gone by the wayside.

Do not overlook social bookmarking sites as well as other kinds of social media. There are a lot of things you can do such as profile backlinks where you can write content, etc. Honestly, these are not the highest quality backlinks, but you need to have diversity with your portfolio.

Think about outsourcing this one because it can be time-consuming. Take care that you do not go overboard because some sites have put measures in place. It is in your best interest to acquire backlinks from the methods discussed above, and the reason for it is gives you variety. If you fail to take any action of any kind, then you will not see any improvement. Also, do your own testing with everything because that is how you discover new methods. After you have devoted enough time to this, then all you learn will become valuable.
